Methodology: GHG Protocol · Scope 2 via CEA all-India grid factor (V21).

The 5-step response (do it once, reuse it forever)

1

Build a one-page evidence folder

One spreadsheet with your yearly electricity, fuel, water, headcount and a yes/no policy list answers ~80% of every questionnaire you'll ever get.

2

Turn bills into carbon numbers

Use the tool above — it applies India's CEA grid factor, not a UK/US one, so your Scope 2 number is correct and will survive your customer's assurance check.

3

Answer social & governance honestly

For each policy: if you have it, say yes. If not, say "not yet — planned." Honesty beats a vague "not applicable" every time.

4

Fill gaps with a dated plan

Nobody expects a 20-person firm to have a Scope 3 inventory. A transparent gap with a timeline is a strong answer.

5

Send the one-page summary, keep a copy

Download the summary above, attach it to your reply, and save it. The next customer asks for 90% of the same things.

Common questions

Why did my customer suddenly ask for this?

Large listed companies in India must report ESG data under SEBI's BRSR framework, and from FY2026-27 that extends to their value chain — their significant suppliers. If you export, your buyers face the EU's CSRD with the same effect. You're not being singled out; it's becoming a routine part of being a supplier.

Do I need to buy ESG software?

No. The expensive platforms are built for the large company doing the asking. To answer, you need your real numbers, honest policy answers, and a clean summary — exactly what this free tool gives you.

Why not just use a free UK/US carbon calculator?

India's grid is ~3× more carbon-intensive (0.7117 kg CO₂/kWh per CEA V21, vs ~0.2). A Western tool understates your footprint by ~70% and gives your customer a number they can't use. This tool uses India's official CEA grid emission factor.

Is my data stored anywhere?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser. Nothing you type here is sent to a server or saved.
